Mattel defends itself on safety of toys

NEW YORK (AP) - With its reputation bruised by the second major recall of Chinese-made toys tainted with lead paint in a matter of two weeks, Mattel Inc. on Tuesday defended the measures it has taken to ensure the safety of its toys.

Home Depot reports 2Q profit drop

ATLANTA (AP) - The Home Depot Inc. reported Tuesday a 14.8 percent drop in second-quarter profit. The results beat Wall Street expectations, but its shares fell after executives made comments that suggested to investors that the sale of the company's wholesale distribution business may not be a lock.
