Cingular sues private eye over records

ATLANTA (AP) - Cingular Wireless LLC, the nation's largest cell phone provider, on Friday sued a private eye caught up in the scandal over the Hewlett-Packard Co. leak investigation, seeking to make him pay for allegedly obtaining customer call records under false pretenses.

Oil prices up slightly on OPEC concerns

Delta reports $11M loss for August

ATLANTA (AP) - Delta Air Lines Inc., which is operating under bankruptcy protection, reported Friday that it lost $11 million in August. The Atlanta-based company, which is the nation's third-largest airline, said the net loss in the 31-day period was equivalent to 6 cents per share.

Toshiba, Dell recall Sony-made batteries

TOKYO (AP) - The Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp. said Friday that it is recalling 830,000 batteries made by Sony for its laptop computers while personal computer maker Dell Inc. expanded its recall of Sony battery packs by 100,000. The batteries can short-circuit and have been blamed for causing some computers to catch fire.

Outlook dims for auto-parts maker Timken

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Timken Co., a maker of bearings and alloy steel products, on Friday slashed its earnings outlook for the third quarter and the full year and said it will cut 700 jobs, or 2.6 percent of its work force, because of the weakening U.S. auto market. Its shares slumped nearly 8 percent.
