Northwest may recall hundreds of pilots

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) - Northwest Airlines Corp., which is working to emerge from bankruptcy, is planning to recall hundreds of furloughed pilots this year and next, more than it initially said it would recall, the pilot's union said.

Gas station sees sales drop after speech

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Some gas station owners in Oklahoma are dropping the Venezuelan state-owned Citgo brand, saying sales have dropped significantly since the Venezuelan president criticized President Bush in a speech last month.

Military contracts buoy World Airways

ATLANTA (AP) - Inside a World Airways jet, it looks like just another "cattle car" _ an all coach-class fuselage crammed with 400 passenger seats. Except for one difference. "It's the only airline where it's, 'Please stow your M-16 under the seat in front of you,'" says Marc Vetterick, the airline's Atlanta station manager. "It's probably the safest airline to fly."

Ex-McKesson execs acquitted of fraud

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Two former McKesson Corp. executives were acquitted Friday on one count each of federal securities fraud, but a mistrial was declared on six other counts in a $9 billion accounting scandal at the pharmaceutical distribution company.

Berkshire's profit up nearly fivefold

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - With no major catastrophes in this year's third quarter, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reported an almost fivefold increase in income Friday from a year earlier when hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma struck.

Wal-Mart cuts prices for holidays

NEW YORK (AP) - First, toys, now electronics. Wal-Mart, which began discounting its holiday toys in mid-October, announced on Friday deep price cuts on almost 100 electronics, setting the stage for price wars in advance of the holiday season.

Starbucks loses laptops with worker data

SEATTLE (AP) - Starbucks Corp. said Friday it had lost track of four laptop computers, two of which had private information on about 60,000 current and former U.S. employees and fewer than 80 Canadian workers and contractors.
