PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia's largest newspaper could lose as much as one-third of its newsroom jobs as its new owner grapples with reduced advertising revenue and falling circulation, the paper's managing editor said.

DETROIT (AP) - As the nation's Big Three automakers remake themselves into smaller, leaner companies, the rental car business is suffering collateral damage. All three have cut production this year to bring supply in line with lower demand for their products, and further cuts are inevitable next year. They're also trying to wean themselves of rebates and other incentives to bring sales prices closer to the sticker.

Nvidia to buy PortalPlayer for $357M

WASHINGTON (AP) - The price of gasoline has fallen to its lowest level in more than 10 months. The federal Energy Information Administration said Monday that U.S. motorists paid $2.20 a gallon on average for regular grade last week, a decrease of 1.8 cents from the previous week.

XM Satellite Radio reports narrower loss

NEW YORK (AP) - XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. reported a narrower third-quarter loss Monday and said it was on track to turn a profit in the fourth quarter. The improved results, which followed several quarters of bad surprises, sent XM's shares sharply higher.

NEW YORK (AP) - Profit-taking sent gold futures slightly lower Monday, while silver managed a gain due to technically oriented buying. December gold settled down $1.30 to $627.90 a troy ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
