Freeport-McMoRan buying copper giant

PHOENIX (AP) - Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. said Sunday it will acquire the Phelps Dodge Corp. for $25.9 billion in cash and stock to create the world's largest publicly traded copper company.
