NEW YORK (AP) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. had a disappointing start to the holiday shopping season, despite an aggressive discount campaign. It now expects to report November same-store sales below its already lackluster forecast.

NEW YORK (AP) - The nation's retailers had a strong start to the holiday shopping season, according to results announced Saturday by a national research group that tracks sales at mall-based stores. One big exception was Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which said it expects to report same-store sales in November below its already lackluster forecast.

Web catalog offers prison-made products

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Internet shopping knows no boundaries, not even for products made behind bars. Maryland Correctional Enterprises, the manufacturing division of the state Division of Correction, has put its 182-page catalog online. Now anyone can see, if not buy, hundreds of items the agency offers for sale to government agencies and Maryland nonprofit organizations. The catalog is at http://www.dpscs.state.md.us/mcem.

Catfish growers face global competition

ATLANTA (AP) - They don't look too much like catfish. They don't taste like them, either _ at least to catfish connoisseurs. But Vietnamese basa and tra fish often fool consumers in the U.S., where they're sometimes billed as Asian catfish. Sometimes they're even labeled Delta grown.

FREEPORT, Maine (AP) - If your mailbox is stuffed with catalogs, that's what the catalog retailers want to see this holiday season. More catalog retailers like Maine-based L.L. Bean are moving toward the day when the bulk of their sales are made online. Yet the number of catalogs mailed to U.S. households has been climbing over the past couple of years.
