NEW YORK (AP) - Many people dream of taking a hobby and turning it into a successful small business, and many entrepreneurs are lucky and savvy enough to make it happen. But profiting from a passion still takes hard work, and hobbyists-turned-business owners often find they spend more time running the company than enjoying a pastime.

Federal protection for consumers

NEW YORK (AP) - Earlier this year, consumers who thought they were requesting a free trial of a tooth whitener from an Internet site soon found withdrawals of $106.90 from their bank accounts or similar charges to their credit cards, according to a nonprofit consumer education group.

NEW YORK (AP) - Martha Stewart complained that she was almost trampled by the scrum of reporters at her trial on charges she lied about a stock sale. Stephen J. Treadway's trial, in the same Manhattan federal court, was considerably quieter, although the civil charges against Treadway were of far greater importance to average investors.
