On the Money: Know your credit score

NEW YORK (AP) - Not paying attention to your credit score can cost you a lot of money. Many people don't know that their score _ a three-digit number derived from an analysis of how they handle debt _ is the key determinant of what interest rate they'll pay on credit cards, auto loans and home mortgages. The lower a person's score is, the higher the interest rate and, therefore, the higher the cost for the loan.

NEW YORK (AP) - It's their house, but you don't have to live by their rules. Wall Street can't seem to make up its mind about the risks posed by rising mortgage defaults; one day it seems fearful and the next, the market seems to cast off doubt and move higher. But the average investor need not be so indecisive.
