NEW YORK (AP) - BET canceled its "Nightly News," saying it instead will offer news briefs throughout the day, specials about newsworthy events and an urban affairs show, "The Cousin Jeff Chronicles," that will run four times a year.

'Apprentice' finale only lasts an hour

NEW YORK (AP) - The next "Apprentice" finale won't be huuuuge. During a press conference Tuesday, Donald Trump announced that the live finale of the third season of NBC's "The Apprentice" will be held at the Skirball Center of the Performing Arts at New York University on May 19 (9 p.m. ET). Unlike the second season's much bemoaned three-hour finale and reunion last December, this swan song will only last an hour.

Letterman excused from N.Y. jury duty

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Maybe the lawyer remembered that crack about the electric chair. David Letterman, who lives in North Salem, reported for jury duty Monday at the Westchester County Courthouse and was considered for a medical malpractice case. He assured the doctor's lawyer that he could be fair, but was eventually excused.
