Tribeca faces 9/11 horror with 'United 93'

NEW YORK (AP) - The choice of the Hugh Grant comedy "About a Boy" to open the first Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 was a conscious attempt to turn away from the horrors of Sept. 11, the impetus for the festival, and give people a reason to laugh again, if only for one night.

'Silent Hill' leads box office with $20.2M

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Horror was king of the hill at the box office again. "Silent Hill" debuted as the weekend's top movie, taking in $20.2 million, the latest in a string of No. 1 debuts for fright films, including "Hostel" and "When a Stranger Calls."

'Virgin,' 'Crashers' lead MTV movie awards

NEW YORK (AP) - Comedies, frequently snubbed by award shows, will be front and center at this year's MTV Movie Awards. "The 40-Year Old Virgin" and "Wedding Crashers" lead with five nominations each, MTV announced Monday. Both films will compete for best movie along with "Batman Begins," "King Kong" and "Sin City."
