Washington's 'American Ring' well sung

WASHINGTON (AP) - Midway through the Washington National Opera's "Ring" cycle, it appears the company has run short of two items: money to complete the project, and ideas that would fulfill the promise of turning Wagner's four-part epic into a uniquely "American Ring."

Statler Brothers are Virginians of Year

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Statler Brothers, who enjoyed a four-decade run as one of the most successful groups in country music, have been named Virginians of the Year by the state's press association.
