Willis improves to 7-0 as Marlins win

MIAMI (AP) - Dontrelle Willis gave the Houston Astros a quick lead, and little else. Willis improved to a major league-best 7-0 by allowing one run and six hits in eight innings, and Damion Easley's two-run homer sent the Florida Marlins to a 2-1 victory Wednesday night.
 
Selig says drug-testing program is working

NEW YORK (AP) - Baseball commissioner Bud Selig insisted Wednesday that baseball's current drug-testing program was working, saying the reason he proposed even tougher rules last month was to stop suspicion.
 
Red Sox again beat A's on walk-off homer

BOSTON (AP) - Jason Varitek's ninth-inning homer allowed the Boston Red Sox to walk off as last-swing winners for the second straight day. His two-run shot down the right field line with one out against Octavio Dotel on Wednesday gave Boston a 6-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics, who had taken the lead on Eric Byrnes' two-run homer in the top of the inning.
 
Diamondbacks defeat Nationals 3-2

PHOENIX (AP) - Chad Tracy hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Wednesday. Javier Vazquez pitched seven solid innings for the Diamondbacks, who earned their second consecutive win over a team that had bedeviled them. The Washington franchise won 10 straight against Arizona over the last two years before Tuesday night's 3-2 Diamondbacks victory.
 
Cards overwhelm the Dodgers with 9-3 win
