Soriano paying dividends as Cubs win 7-2

Rocket launch delayed as Yankees lose

CHICAGO (AP) - The Rocket was nowhere in sight. Matt DeSalvo was there in his place _ but not for long. DeSalvo got knocked out early, then knocked right back to the minors after the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 6-4 on Monday night. As for Roger Clemens, the Yankees aren't concerned about when he will make his 2007 debut.

Lowe flirts with no-no; Dodgers hang on

PITTSBURGH (AP) - In only a few minutes, Derek Lowe went from flirting with a no-hitter to hanging on merely to win a game that the Los Angeles Dodgers appeared to have long since wrapped up. Lowe was so dominating for six innings that his manager began thinking he might throw a second career no-hitter, only to nearly squander a five-run lead before the Dodgers held on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 on Monday night.

Marlins pull out strange win over Braves

ATLANTA (AP) - A strikeout worked out just fine for Florida. The Marlins scored four runs off Tim Hudson during a strange fifth inning and went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 Monday night, benefiting from a strikeout that didn't result in an out.

Former Yankees third baseman Boyer dies

NEW YORK (AP) - Clete Boyer, the third baseman for the champion New York Yankees teams of the 1960s who made an art form of diving stops and throws from his knees, died Monday. He was 70. Boyer died in an Atlanta hospital from complications of a brain hemorrhage, son-in-law Todd Gladden said.
