Sheffield, Tigers pummel Texas 10-0

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Gary Sheffield's bat and Justin Verlander's right arm were more than enough for the Detroit Tigers to beat the plummeting Texas Rangers. Sheffield homered twice and drove in five runs, leading Verlander and the Tigers to a 10-0 rout of Texas on Wednesday night.
 
Yankees, feeling less vulnerable, win

CHICAGO (AP) - Suddenly, the New York Yankees don't seem so vulnerable. Their offense is coming around. Their pitching is delivering, too. And on Wednesday, Chien-Ming Wang gave them something they hadn't had since last summer: a nine-inning complete game.

Zambrano controls temper as Cubs win 6-2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Carlos Zambrano controlled his temper and his pitches. After a meltdown in his previous start that included a fight with his catcher, Zambrano struck out a season-high nine and led the Chicago Cubs over the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 Wednesday.
 
Castillo's streak ends; Twins win anyway

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Luis Castillo's major league-record errorless streak for second basemen ended at 143 games. More important to him and the Minnesota Twins, their four-game skid also came to a halt. Nick Punto, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Bartlett homered and Kevin Slowey lasted long enough to get his first major league win as the Twins beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-5 Wednesday.
 
Rollins lets bat do talking as Phils win

NEW YORK (AP) - This time, Jimmy Rollins let his bat do the talking. Rollins hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Aaron Heilman in the seventh inning, rallying the Philadelphia Phillies and Mets nemesis Adam Eaton to a 4-2 victory over New York on Wednesday night.
 
Pujols' faith restored as Cardinals win

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Albert Pujols always knew the St. Louis Cardinals could straighten things out. Pujols' two-run homer snapped a seventh-inning tie, helping his surging team beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 on Wednesday night. The Cardinals (26-30) have won six of seven and pulled five games behind first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central.
 
A's send Red Sox to fourth straight loss
