HOUSTON (AP) - Wandy Rodriguez impressed just about everyone Friday night as he helped the Houston Astros to a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The young Astros left-hander allowed a run and six hits while striking out seven without a walk.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Mike Sweeney didn't get mad and he didn't get even. He got a three-run double. After the Florida Marlins walked hot-hitting Mark Teahen to load the bases and pitch to him, Kansas City's veteran designated hitter lashed Sergio Mitre's sinker down the left-field line and the Royals rolled to a 6-2 victory Friday night.

BOSTON (AP) - Larry Whiteside, a baseball writer in Boston, Kansas City and Milwaukee for almost half a century who was a pioneer for blacks in journalism and a mentor for reporters regardless of their race, died Friday after a long illness. He was 69.
