Webb shows Cy Young form as D'backs win

PHOENIX (AP) - Brandon Webb pitched like the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner when he needed to. Overcoming uncharacteristic wildness, Webb threw seven shutout innings to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

SEATTLE (AP) - Jose Lopez was watching unpredictable Manny Ramirez _ just like many curious people do at a Red Sox game. Lopez noticed that Ramirez was positioned close to the left-field line in the bottom of the 11th, creating a large gap in left-center. Lopez pulled Joel Pineiro's pitch into the gap for a double, scoring Ichiro Suzuki and helping the surging Mariners beat Boston 2-1 on Wednesday.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Oakland manager Bob Geren probably wishes he gave his ballclub a pep talk sooner. Geren briefly spoke to his team and the Athletics responded with a 13-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night that snapped a five-game losing streak. Jack Cust hit a three-run homer and finished with a career-high five RBIs, and Shannon Stewart finished with four hits.
 
Orioles deny Clemens his 350th victory

BALTIMORE (AP) - This was one personal accomplishment that Roger Clemens really wanted, mostly because it would provide the New York Yankees with a lift they desperately needed. It was a win-win situation. Clemens earns his 350th victory, and the Yankees end a three-game losing streak. Unfortunately for Clemens and the Yankees, that scenario did not play out Wednesday night at Camden Yards.
 
Mets' Glavine takes shortcut to No. 297

NEW YORK (AP) - Tom Glavine nearly gave the New York Mets their first no-hitter _ with a major explanation attached. Glavine earned his 297th win, pitching one-hit ball for six innings in a rain-shortened shutout to lead New York past the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 on Wednesday night.
 
Zaun adjusts and Blue Jays beat Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A pair of small adjustments paid big dividends for the Toronto Blue Jays. Gregg Zaun hit a two-run homer and Toronto overcame four errors to beat the Twins 5-4 Wednesday night, the Blue Jays' fifth win in six games.
 
'Old school' Weathers saves Reds' win

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - David Weathers pitched out of a jam and through a rain delay to earn an old-school save. Javier Valentin hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning, Adam Dunn added a two-run homer and Weathers got the final six outs in Cincinnati's 9-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
 
Buehrle wins, wants to stay in Chicago

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Ozzie Guillen wants Mark Buehrle in his rotation, and the White Sox left-hander wants to stay in Chicago. "I think everyone knows where my heart's at ... and how bad I want to stay here," Buehrle said Wednesday after beating the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5-3. "I want to stay here and do everything I can to stay here."
 
Pirates win rare consecutive road games
