PITTSBURGH (AP) - The numbers are so one-sided, it's startling. The American League is 8-0-1 in the last nine All-Star games. AL teams also swept the past two World Series and won an overwhelming 61 percent of interleague games against the NL this season.

Bonds' trainer asks court for bail

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Bonds' personal trainer asked a federal appeals court on Monday to allow him to leave prison on bail nearly a week after a judge ordered him locked up for refusing to testify to a grand jury investigating the San Francisco Giants slugger.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Lucky for Francisco Liriano that someone in his family picked up the phone. The Minnesota rookie ace was added to the AL All-Star team Monday after Jose Contreras pitched himself out of a spot while St. Louis shortstop David Eckstein replaced injured Jose Reyes on the NL side.

Cardinals beat Astros 7-5 in 12 innings

HOUSTON (AP) - Aaron Miles stayed focused against Astros closer Brad Lidge, even though he was facing his close friend and former roommate. Miles drove in two runs with a double off of Lidge in the 12th inning to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 7-5 victory over Houston on Sunday night.
