OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Frank Thomas' two-run homer in the seventh inning helped Oakland beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 on Friday night and give the Athletics their 10th straight home win.

Valentin's pinch-hit double lifts Mets

On a night when Kyle Snyder (4-3) allowed two hits in seven innings of a 2-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, closer Jonathan Papelbon left with a shoulder injury and starter Curt Schilling was scratched from his next start with a mild strain in his right side.

Sanchez (6-2) threw seven strong innings Friday night, giving up just one run and five hits, while striking out a career-high seven, to lead the Marlins to a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The loss was Milwaukee's eighth straight.
 
A-Rod homers twice as Yankes rout Twins

A day after breaking out of a slump, Rodriguez homered twice and drove in three runs Friday night, earning a second call for the second straight game in New York's 8-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
 
Cardinals' Carpenter 3-hits Pirates

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Chris Carpenter disposed of the Pittsburgh Pirates so quickly, even he stole an occasional glance at the clock. Carpenter threw a three-hitter to beat the Pirates for the fourth time this season, and the St. Louis Cardinals also got a homer from Preston Wilson in a 3-1 victory Friday night. The game lasted only one hour and 54 minutes, the Cardinals' shortest in more than four seasons.
 
Boomer: 'I don't plan on coming back'
