NEW YORK (AP) - Two little, too late for the Boston Red Sox. Boston beat the New York Yankees twice in one day for the first time in 30 years, rallying for a 5-4 victory Sunday night on Mark Loretta's ninth-inning sacrifice fly. In the opener of the team's second straight day-night doubleheader, David Ortiz's league-leading 49th homer and Kevin Youkilis' three-run double in the seventh boosted Boston to a 6-3 win.
 
Padres nick Dodgers, take division lead

LOS ANGELES (AP) - If it weren't for playing the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres might be lagging in the NL West. Thanks to their domination of the Dodgers, the Padres instead are a half-game up in the division, passing Los Angeles with a 2-1 victory Sunday. San Diego has won eight of the last nine meetings. The Padres are 13-4 overall against Los Angeles and 7-1 at Dodger Stadium.
 
Rockies beat error-prone D-Backs 6-1

PHOENIX (AP) - After improving to 6-1 lifetime against Arizona on Sunday afternoon, Colorado left-hander Jeff Francis could not explain why he pitches so well against the Diamondbacks. "I've had some rough ones against them," he said. "Especially in this building (Chase Field) I think I've had some rough ones."
 
A's deal blow to Chisox playoff chances

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Frank Thomas couldn't take part in Chicago's World Series run a year ago. Now he's doing his best to prevent the White Sox from making a bid for a second straight title. Thomas dealt another big blow to his former team's dwindling playoff hopes, hitting a three-run homer Sunday to help the Oakland Athletics beat Chicago 5-4.
 
Tigers lose, division lead shrinks to 1

DETROIT (AP) - It might have just gotten tougher for the Detroit Tigers to hold off the surging Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. After Baltimore beat the Tigers 12-8 on Sunday in 10 innings _ cutting their division lead to a game over Minnesota _ second baseman Placido Polanco said his season is over.
 
Padilla quiets Angels as Rangers win 8-1

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Texas pitcher Vicente Padilla had a lot calmer outing against the Los Angeles Angels than in his last start against them. Padilla (14-9) pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning to match his career high in wins and the Rangers beat the Angels 8-1 on Sunday.
 
Zambrano hits, pitches Cubs over Reds

CHICAGO (AP) - Carlos Zambrano is hoping his arm and bat can help the Chicago Cubs achieve a modest goal _ avoiding 100 losses. Zambrano hit his fifth home run of the season and pitched seven shutout innings in his return to the rotation, leading the Cubs over the Cincinnati Reds 11-3 Sunday.
 
Twins top Tribe, maintain wild card lead

CLEVELAND (AP) - While trying to catch first-place Detroit, the Minnesota Twins are catching everything hit their way, too. Minnesota turned five double plays for the first time in 11 years and Scott Baker pitched six strong innings as the Twins beat the Cleveland Indians 6-1 Sunday to move within one game of the Tigers in the AL Central.

Braves rally past fading Marlins 8-7
