Petrino agrees to coach Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) - From his very first year at Louisville, Bobby Petrino's name kept coming up for other coaching jobs. On Sunday, he finally decided it was time to go. Petrino left the Cardinals to become head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, who needed less than a week to find a replacement for Jim Mora.
 
Coughlin's future with Giants uncertain

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Tom Coughlin's future with the New York Giants was uncertain Sunday after he coached the defending NFC East champions into the playoffs with a .500 record and couldn't get them out of the opening round of the playoffs for the second straight year.

Thousands of friends, family members, teammates and fans attended the funeral for the charismatic Denver Broncos cornerback who was killed in a drive-by shooting on New Year's Day.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Peyton Manning knows all about falling apart in the playoffs. Though he struggled early Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts' stunningly stingy defense came to the rescue. Manning and the Colts beat the inept Kansas City Chiefs 23-8 Saturday, and while the star quarterback's numbers were good _ 30-of-38 for 268 yards _ his performance was mediocre. At least it was for the most prolific passer of his generation.

SEATTLE (AP) - Tony Romo saved the season for the Dallas Cowboys _ and his gaffe ended it. The Pro Bowl quarterback mishandled the snap on a 19-yard field goal in the closing moments of Dallas' 21-20 NFC wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.
