NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Saints took a gamble on Adrian McPherson. The talented and troubled quarterback, who threw his college career at Florida State away by betting on football games and committing a string of felonies, was selected Sunday in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

Then injuries derailed Orton's breakthrough season and instead of competing with Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers to be the first quarterback taken, he ended up being the first quarterback selected Sunday on the second day of the draft.
