Panthers make Giants defense look bad

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - With or without Michael Strahan, the New York Giants defense has a lot of work to do after being exposed by the Carolina Panthers. Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith combined for an opening-drive touchdown pass and receiver Taye Biddle caught touchdown passes of 23 and 85 yards to lead the Panthers to a 24-21 victory on Saturday night in the matchup of teams looking to rebound from .500 records in 2006.

New England opened the preseason with a 13-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night, however it will be a bit longer before the Patriots get a chance to see their new passing tandem together in a game.
