Sep 17 2006 11:03PM (CT)
IRVING, Texas (AP) - Drew Bledsoe and the Dallas Cowboys got a big lift from a receiver in their home opener. No, not by T.O. _ it was from their other big-play guy, Terry Glenn. While Terrell Owens botched his home debut with drops and penalties, Glenn set up Dallas' first two touchdowns, then scored a third with a 40-yard catch, sending the Cowboys past the Washington Redskins 27-10 Sunday night.

Patriots escape with 24-17 win over Jets
Sep 17 2006 9:18PM (CT)
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini met near midfield, exchanged a fleeting, businesslike handshake and again went their separate ways. That's the way it's been since the student left the teacher's New England Patriots to become the head coach of the New York Jets, adding to an already spicy rivalry.

Sep 17 2006 8:34PM (CT)
DENVER (AP) - Rod Smith was on the sideline with a concussion, Jake Plummer was having an awful day and nothing Mike Shanahan and his offensive staff came up with seemed to work. Javon Walker bailed them all out. He led Denver to a 9-6 win over Kansas City on Sunday by grabbing a 24-yard jump ball to set up Jason Elam's 39-yard field goal 5:10 into overtime at Invesco Field.

Seahawks get underwhelming win off Cards
Sep 17 2006 8:05PM (CT)
SEATTLE (AP) - Standards have risen so high in Seattle that some members of the Seahawks aren't happy _ despite being 2-0. None of those would be on defense. "Everybody expects us to be the team that was in the Super Bowl," running back Shaun Alexander said after a 21-10 win Sunday over Arizona. "This is only the second week. So I think we have a good, second-week offense instead of the team that walked into the Super Bowl."

72-yard TD pass helps 49ers defeat Rams
Sep 17 2006 7:45PM (CT)
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - When Antonio Bryant heard the next play-call, he stuck his head in the San Francisco 49ers' huddle and yelled something foolish. "Meet me in the end zone," the receiver told his offensive line. That would've been downright hilarious from a member of last season's woeful 49ers _ but then Bryant made a 72-yard touchdown catch, keying San Francisco's 20-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - With his team taking an unbeaten record into the Louisiana Superdome next Monday night, wide receiver Joe Horn knows people in New Orleans will have something positive to holler about. With Longwell's three field goals and a clutch touchdown pass on a fake _ plus a defense that forced nine punts _ the Vikings showed again that they don't need a flashy, high-flying offense to win.
