Suns sweep Grizzlies from NBA playoffs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Forget slowing down in the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns sprinted right into the Western Conference semifinals. Joe Johnson scored 25 points, and the Suns swept the Memphis Grizzlies with a 123-115 victory Sunday night that put Phoenix into the second round for the first time since 2000. They now get to rest and wait to see if they will play Dallas or Houston.

Heat complete first-round sweep of Nets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Until Shaquille O'Neal's sore thighs get better, Dwyane Wade is quite capable of leading the Miami Heat past anyone in the playoffs, even sweeping them. Wade more than filled the void of O'Neal's scoreless first half by scoring a postseason career-high 34 points and setting up the big guy for most of his 17 second-half points as the Heat completed a first-round sweep of the New Jersey Nets with a 110-97 win Sunday.

McMillan to Adelman: Back off complaints

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Seattle coach Nate McMillan thinks Rick Adelman should back off. McMillan strongly disagrees with the Sacramento coach's contention that the SuperSonics are being too aggressive and pushing the limits of the rules during their first-round playoff series with the Kings.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Pistons survived another scare from Philadelphia, and headed home with a chance to wrap up their playoff series. Chauncey Billups carried the Pistons in the final minutes of regulation, Rasheed Wallace hit a couple of clutch 3-pointers in overtime and Detroit overcame an inspired effort by Allen Iverson to go up 3-1 in its first-round series with a 97-92 win over the Sixers on Sunday.

Arenas learns to settle down for Wizards

WASHINGTON (AP) - When veteran guard Anthony Peeler signed with the Washington Wizards last summer, he figured his No. 1 job was to teach Gilbert Arenas how to grow up. "I thought I was going to have to come in here and bump chests with my young guy, from hearing all the stuff people say," Peeler said. "But he's a competitor, and he's the greatest teammate ever. It's unreal how he became professional like this all of a sudden."

Terry helps Mavs even series with Rockets

HOUSTON (AP) - With Dirk Nowitzki in another slump and Houston's Tracy McGrady suddenly struggling after scoring virtually at will, Jason Terry took over in the fourth quarter to rescue the Dallas Mavericks. The point guard scored a season-high 32 points, including a 3-pointer with 26.9 seconds left, and Michael Finley added 18, rallying the Mavericks from another late deficit in a 97-93 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday.
