Pistons defeat Heat 90-81 in Game 1

MIAMI (AP) - The defending champions kept finding mismatches and exploiting them. The challengers kept finding themselves playing from behind, and they simply couldn't cope. Whether it was Tayshaun Prince outsizing Dwyane Wade, Rasheed Wallace taking his man outside or Chauncey Billups getting the better of Damon Jones, the Detroit Pistons played calmly and intelligently for 48 minutes and defeated the Miami Heat 90-81 Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Spurs' quick tempo pays off against Suns

PHOENIX (AP) - Now that the San Antonio Spurs have proven they can outscore anyone, even the Phoenix Suns, point guard Tony Parker really wants to show off. "Tony would like to score 180 and just run all day long," coach Gregg Popovich said. "I don't have enough guts to do that." OK, so the Spurs aren't quite ready to remind everyone of their ABA roots.

O'Neal starts Game 1 of conference finals

O'Neal's availability was a question mark right up until gametime, and a red-clad sellout crowd erupted in cheers when he was announced among Miami's starting five.

He will now return to hockey and pursue opportunities in the sport he truly loves.
