MIAMI (AP) - The Detroit Pistons lost their cool, their composure _ and their chance to go back home with a chance to wrap up the Eastern Conference finals. Instead, the Miami Heat are within one win of the NBA Finals after their 88-76 victory over the Pistons on Thursday night.

Burse lead Storm past Mercury 78-67

PHOENIX (AP) - Janell Burse scored 21 points and Lauren Jackson added 12 points and 14 rebounds, leading the Seattle Storm past the Phoenix Mercury 78-67 Thursday night. The Storm (3-1) went on a 16-5 run early in the second half to open a 15-point lead. Phoenix never got closer than seven the rest of the night.

Shaq offers to pay for Mikan's funeral

MIAMI (AP) - Shaquille O'Neal wants to pay more than respects to the family of George Mikan. O'Neal said Thursday that he wants the Mikan family to contact the Miami Heat offices, so arrangements can be made for him to handle funeral expenses for the league's first dominant big man.

MIAMI (AP) - Miami's win in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals may have come at a high price. Dwyane Wade, the team's leading scorer in both the regular season and the playoffs, strained a rib muscle on his right side in the Heat's 88-76 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.
