CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Fred Whitfield, a close friend, confidante and business partner of Bobcats co-owner Michael Jordan for more than 25 years, has inherited the challenge of selling the team to Charlotte.
 
Celtics finish off Pierce deal

BOSTON (AP) - Paul Pierce, the Celtics captain whose prolific but occasionally troubled career put him on the trading blocks last summer, signed a three-year, $59 million contract extension on Monday that would keep him in Boston through the 2010-11 season.
 
Douglas drops 26 as Sun top Storm 92-83

SEATTLE (AP) - Katie Douglas didn't mind the ice bath to soothe some calf cramps after her first ever victory in Seattle. Douglas, the All-Star game MVP, scored 26 points, leading the Connecticut Sun back from a 15-point deficit for a 92-83 win over the Storm on Sunday night.
 
Taurasi leads Mercury over Liberty 80-70

PHOENIX (AP) - The venue was different but the outcome was the same. Diana Taurasi scored 29 points to help the Phoenix Mercury hand the New York Liberty their seventh straight loss, 80-70 on Sunday night, the second win for Phoenix over New York in eight days.
