Nowitzki stars as Germany downs Nigeria

Monarchs advance to WNBA finals with win

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Playing aggressive defense, the Sacramento Monarchs took the Los Angeles Sparks out of their game. Yolanda Griffith scored 15 points to lead the Monarchs into the WNBA finals for the second straight season with a 72-58 victory over the Sparks on Saturday night. The Sparks were held to 37 percent shooting for the game and got outrebounded 40-25.

The All-Star game MVP returned to the starting lineup despite a hairline fracture in her right foot to spark the Sun to a 77-68 win over the Detroit Shock on Saturday, extending the Eastern Conference finals to a deciding third game.

SAITAMA, Japan (AP) - Turkey coach Bogdan Tanjevic had an easy explanation for his team's sudden success from 3-point range. "It comes from desire. The players can see it with their eyes," he said, moving his wrist and hand as if he were shooting a basketball and focusing his eyes on a distant target. "The player believes, he sees it with eyes. It is just desire." Turkey went 5-for-5 from 3-point range over the final 4:22 and beat Slovenia 90-84 on Saturday in the second round of the FIBA world
