PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Mike Richards needed a fluky bounce, a lucky break and an empty net to get his first career hat trick. Richards scored three goals and Robert Esche made 20 saves, leading the undermanned Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.

NHL grants Tocchet indefinite leave

NEW YORK (AP) - Rick Tocchet was granted an indefinite leave of absence Wednesday night by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, a day after the Phoenix Coyotes assistant coach was accused of financing a nationwide gambling ring that took bets from about a half-dozen current players.
