MONTREAL (AP) - Montreal goalie Jose Theodore has tested positive for a banned substance in pre-Olympic screening because he was using a hair-growth drug that can be used as a masking agent, the Canadiens' team doctor said Thursday.

Mathieu Schneider scored with 6:31 left, and the Red Wings beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 Thursday night for their second victory in two nights over their Central Division rivals who took two straight from them in as many days in Detroit last month.

Tocchet takes leave of absence from NHL

NEW YORK (AP) - Rick Tocchet isn't welcome in the NHL as long as he's linked to a big-time gambling ring. The former All-Star player who became Wayne Gretzky's top assistant on the Phoenix Coyotes' coaching staff was given an indefinite leave of absence Wednesday night by commissioner Gary Bettman. Tocchet's departure came a day after he was accused of financing a nationwide gambling operation that took bets from about a half-dozen current players.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Miikka Kiprusoff's teammates made his job a lot easier on Wednesday night. Kiprusoff made 31 saves and the Calgary Flames scored three power-play goals to beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 3-1 and move back into sole possession of first place in the tight Northwest Division.
