Williams nets 2 as 'Canes beat Thrashers

ATLANTA (AP) - Justin Williams thinks the Carolina Hurricanes are beginning to look like defending Stanley Cup champions. Williams scored twice and Rod Brind'Amour had two assists to help Carolina beat the Atlanta Thrashers 4-1 on Saturday night.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - The Boston Bruins still have no answer for their season-long futility against Florida Panthers. Chris Gratton scored two goals and Ed Belfour again dominated Boston in goal to help the Panthers beat the Bruins 7-2 on Saturday night.

BOSTON (AP) - Boston Bruins left wing Marco Sturm agreed to a multiyear contract extension Saturday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sturm has 20 goals and 11 assists this season. In 2005, the Bruins traded star center Joe Thornton to San Jose for Sturm, Brad Stuart and Wayne Primeau.
