SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Cristobal Huet is taking full advantage of an opportunity to start in goal for the Montreal Canadiens. Huet made 24 saves for his third shutout in his last seven games, and Alexei Kovalev scored with 5:49 left in the third period to help the Canadiens beat the Florida Panthers 1-0 on Thursday night.

OTTAWA (AP) - The Ottawa Senators gave Ray Emery a lead that even Alex Ovechkin couldn't overcome. Rookie defenseman Andrej Meszaros had three assists, Emery made 30 saves and the Senators scored five special-teams goals in a 7-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
 
Rangers win 7th straight behind Jagr

Nolan rules out return to NHL this year

TORONTO (AP) - Owen Nolan has ruled out returning to NHL this season because of a right knee injury. The 33-year-old unrestricted free agent last played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2003-04. He had surgery last year.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings' five Swedish Olympic players wasted little time getting back up to speed after their gold-medal celebration. Swedish stars Tomas Holmstrom and Henrik Zetterberg scored in a 46-second span in the first period and Chris Osgood made 24 saves in the Red Wings' 2-0 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Wednesday night.
 
Sanford's 35 saves help Blues beat Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Long out of playoff contention, the St. Louis Blues are trying to take some teams with them. Curtis Sanford made 35 saves, and Scott Young scored two goals in the Blues' 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Keith Tkachuk and Jay McClement also scored for St. Louis, 6-1-1 in its last eight games and 17-31-9 overall.
