Mitchell rescues Canucks to edge Stars

DALLAS (AP) - When the replay slowed down on the overhead scoreboard and the Dallas Stars' home fans loudly registered their opinion, everyone on the Vancouver Canucks' bench paid no attention. Defenseman Willie Mitchell said it didn't go in. And his word was good enough for them.

NEW YORK (AP) - The balloons had barely settled in festive Madison Square Garden when Michael Nylander and Jaromir Jagr wrecked the night for Kari Lehtonen and the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. Nylander scored the first of his three goals 32 seconds after the opening faceoff and paved the way for the Rangers' 7-0 blowout Tuesday night that put New York within a win of the second round of the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

Gaborik, Wild stave off elimination

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Pushed around by the bigger, stronger Anaheim Ducks in the first three games of this series, the Minnesota Wild finally shoved back. Marian Gaborik scored a rare power-play goal and Niklas Backstrom made 28 saves to help the Wild avoid a sweep with a 4-1 victory over the Ducks in Game 4 on Tuesday night.
