Panthers defeat Maple Leafs 4-2

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Jacques Martin was happy to reach a coaching milestone. He was even more pleased it came in an important game for the Florida Panthers. Ed Belfour made 23 saves against his former team and Martin picked up his 450th career victory in Florida's 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.
 
Islanders trounce Devils 5-2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - After a sluggish start, everything seems to be falling into place for the New York Islanders. Even the hard-luck line of Trent Hunter, Mike York and Miroslav Satan is starting to score. Hunter, York and Satan combined for two first-period goals and the Islanders won their third straight game with a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
 
Wings edge Hawks for 5th straight win

CHICAGO (AP) - Henrik Zetterberg and Robert Lang scored early in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 Thursday night for their fifth consecutive win.
 
Sabres edge Bruins, 5-4, in shootout

BOSTON (AP) - The end of the Buffalo Sabres' winning streak didn't seem to cool them off at all. Buffalo rallied from a three-goal, third-period deficit and beat Boston 5-4 in a shootout Thursday night, with Ales Kotalik scored the tying goal with 95 seconds left in regulation and then converting the last shot in the shootout.
 
Blues blow out Avalanche, 4-1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Manny Legace made 44 saves and Bill Guerin scored twice, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.

Malkin gives Penguins 4-3 win over Kings

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Evgeni Malkin's first goal Wednesday night was historic. His second was a game winner. Malkin scored a power-play goal in overtime to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
 
Jagr, Rangers beat Ducks 4-3 in OT

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Jaromir Jagr is no stranger to game-winning goals. Only three players in NHL history have more. Jagr's power-play goal with 1:51 left in overtime gave the New York Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.
