Blue Jackets defeat Flames in shootout

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Manny Malhotra made sure the Columbus Blue Jackets finally took advantage of their home ice. Malhotra scored in the 11th shootout round to give the Blue Jackets a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday night.

Thrashers edge past Capitals 4-3

WASHINGTON (AP) - Apparently, the difference between the top and the bottom of the Southeast Division is one goal. Jon Sim scored once and assisted on Steve Rucchin's go-ahead goal 27 seconds into the third period, lifting backup goalie Johan Hedberg and the first-place Atlanta Thrashers past the last-place Washington Capitals 4-3 Friday night.

Weekes helps Rangers defeat Sharks 3-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Way out west, the New York Rangers got their season back on track behind a few unlikely goals and an even more unlikely goalie. Kevin Weekes stopped 29 shots in his second win in two nights, and the Rangers finished a successful road trip with a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

Wings edge Hawks for 5th straight win

CHICAGO (AP) - An open net was all Henrik Zetterberg needed to break out of a scoring slump. Zetterberg and Robert Lang scored early in the third period and Detroit beat Chicago 2-1 for its fifth consecutive win.

Wild rally to pummel Canucks 5-2

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Brian Rolston rushed toward Roberto Luongo on a second-period penalty shot and shocked everybody with a quick slap shot from the top of the circles. The puck sailed past the Vancouver goalie to tie the game, and Minnesota seized the momentum. Rolston's 10th goal of the season was a major part of the Wild's rally from a sluggish start in a 5-2 win over the Canucks on Thursday night.

Blues blow out Avalanche, 4-1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Manny Legace's best game of the season came against a team that is familiar with some of the goalie's strongest performances. Legace made 44 saves and Bill Guerin scored twice, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.
