MONTREAL (AP) - Cristobal Huet gave a big nod to his defense on a night the Montreal Canadiens honored Serge Savard, one of their best defensemen ever. Huet made 39 saves, and Michael Ryder and Alexander Perezhogin each ended lengthy goal-scoring droughts, leading Montreal to a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night.
 
Budaj, Sakic lift Avs over Wild 2-1

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Joe Sakic has never had much trouble putting the puck in the net during a brilliant 18-year career, except when it comes to shootouts. Sakic notched his first shootout goal in eight tries on Saturday night and Peter Budaj made 28 saves to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
 
Pens shut down Jagr, Rangers in 3-1 win

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins disappointed Jaromir Jagr twice on the rink he used to call home. Mark Recchi scored two goals, and the Penguins' defense shut down Jagr and the New York Rangers with a 3-1 victory Saturday night.
 
Dunham stops 43 shots as Isles win

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Mike Dunham made 43 saves the easy way. Dunham, the Islanders backup, looked every bit as sharp as regular goalie Rick DiPietro, and Arron Asham broke a second-period tie, lifting New York to a 4-1 victory against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
 
Bruins outlast Capitals 3-2 in OT

BOSTON (AP) - Boston Bruins coach Dave Lewis is feeling so good that he's taking some gambles. Glen Murray scored a power-play goal 2:06 into overtime to lift the Bruins to their season-high, fourth straight victory, 3-2 over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.
 
Staal's trick lifts Carolina over Stars

Frolov stays hot as Kings top Coyotes

Ruutu lifts Blackhawks over Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Chicago Blackhawks had a potential tying goal nullified in the second period when Tuomo Ruutu was penalized for goaltender interference. He more than made up for his mistake. Ruutu scored to tie the game with 9:21 left in regulation and got the only goal in the shootout, leading the Blackhawks to a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.
 
Canucks manage win over road-weary Blues

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Markus Naslund thought his Vancouver Canucks created enough chances against St. Louis to score 10 goals Friday night. The way things have been going lately, he was just happy they got more than two. Naslund scored twice and Ryan Kesler added an insurance goal with 1:01 left to lift Vancouver to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.
 
Red hot Flames torch Red Wings 4-1

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Miikka Kiprusoff already has Calgary's franchise record shutout streak. His big victory over the Detroit Red Wings was more important. Kiprusoff narrowly missed another shutout, Kristian Huselius had a goal and an assist and the Flames beat Detroit 4-1 Friday night for their sixth straight victory.
 
Afinogenov returns to lift Sabres

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - It didn't take long for Maxim Afinogenov to regain his scoring touch. Afinogenov had a goal and an assist in his return from a shoulder injury and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 Friday night.
 
Lightning top Isles in marathon shootout

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Islanders coach Ted Nolan has joined the list of coaches unhappy with the officiating. Dmitry Afanasenkov scored the lone shootout goal in the seventh round, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning past New York 3-2 on Friday night. The Lightning, who took an early two-goal lead, did not have a penalty. The Islanders received three minor penalties, including two in the opening 4 minutes of play.
