England alive after Israel beats Russia

RAMAT GAN, Israel (AP) - England's bid to qualify for next year's European Championship is still alive. Israel beat Russia 2-1 Saturday night, preventing the Russians from climbing past the English into second place in Group E with one game remaining.

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) - Christian Panucci scored on a header in second-half injury time to give Italy a 2-1 victory over Scotland on Saturday night, a result that qualified both the Azzurri and France for next year's European Championship.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Steve Cherundolo scored in the 27th minute, and the United States beat World Cup host South Africa 1-0 Saturday in an exhibition game that closed the Americans' first year under coach Bob Bradley.
