MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Rene Haynes saved top-seeded Michigan State from an embarrassingly early exit from the NCAA tournament. Haynes came out of a wild scramble with the ball and made a layup with 2.9 seconds left, giving Michigan State a 61-59 victory over eighth-seeded Southern California in a second-round game Monday night.

Francisco Garcia scored 18 of his 21 points in the first half and Taquan Dean stopped any hope Georgia Tech had for a rally with three straight 3-pointers, sealing a 76-54 victory that sent Louisville to the regional semifinals for the first time since 1997.
 
Duke survives for Coach K's NCAA record

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - With one of his most unlikely Duke teams, Mike Krzyzewski moved himself into the NCAA tournament record books and the Blue Devils into the round of 16. Daniel Ewing handled the offense and Shelden Williams took care of defense to lead the top-seeded Blue Devils to a 63-55 win over Mississippi State in the second round of the Austin Regional.

The Lady Vols' 94-43 rout of Western Carolina in an NCAA first-round game Sunday night was win No. 879 for Summitt, tying her with Dean Smith for the most victories in NCAA history.
