Gators returning to national title game
Mar 31 2007 11:32PM (CT)
ATLANTA (AP) - First, an instant replay. Next, a classic repeat? Florida and its in-demand coach, Billy Donovan, moved one win away from a second straight national championship Saturday night, defeating UCLA 76-66 in a game that looked very much like the meeting between these two in last year's Final Four.

Mar 31 2007 11:19PM (CT)
ATLANTA (AP) - Arron Afflalo spent most of UCLA's biggest game sitting on the bench with a towel draped across his lap, saddled with foul trouble. After the Bruins' 76-66 loss to Florida in the national semifinals Saturday night, Afflalo sat at his locker and fought back tears, sniffling as he spoke.

ATLANTA (AP) - Not even three minutes into the game, and the whistle blew. Greg Oden dropped his head and started a slow walk to the bench. Two quick fouls, and he was done for the half. The turning point in the game, for sure. But not in the way anyone expected.

Column: The big battle that never was
Mar 31 2007 10:31PM (CT)
ATLANTA (AP) - Ewing vs. Olajuwon this wasn't. The most anticipated battle in decades between two of college basketball's best big men, 7-foot Greg Oden of Ohio State and 7-2 Roy Hibbert of Georgetown, never quite materialized in Saturday night's semifinal. Thank three guys whose names you wouldn't _ and probably shouldn't _ know.

Mar 31 2007 9:16PM (CT)

No room for little guys at Final Four
Mar 31 2007 2:59AM (CT)
ATLANTA (AP) - There won't be any warm and fuzzy scenes like when Jim Valvano sprinted across the court looking for somebody to hug. You won't see any blubbering meltdowns a la Rollie Massimino, either. And the next George Mason? That dream got squashed two weeks ago. Nope, this year's Final Four is all about the power conferences. There may as well be a sign: "No Underdogs Allowed."
