Maryland advances to 1st championship game
Apr 2 2006 11:45PM (CT)
BOSTON (AP) - Maryland took it slow, took it inside, and took all the fun out of the Tar Heels. The Terrapins _ the only team to beat No. 1 North Carolina this season _ one-upped their own upset Sunday night, beating the Tar Heels 81-70 in the NCAA women's national semifinal. Now Maryland will play for the first women's basketball title in school history.

Latta's knee injury hurts Tar Heels
Apr 2 2006 10:06PM (CT)
BOSTON (AP) - Ivory Latta's feelings hurt more than her knee. And her knee was killing her most of the game. The player whose passion and skill drive North Carolina smacked her left knee on the court 7 1/2 minutes into the game and missed less than two minutes. But when she returned she wasn't the same player who led the Tar Heels to the top overall seed in the NCAA women's basketball tournament.

Mid-majors women hardly cause ripple
Apr 2 2006 6:35PM (CT)
BOSTON (AP) - After George Mason, Bradley and Wichita State made such a splash in the NCAA men's tournament, mid-majors hardly caused a ripple in the women's bracket.

Final Four Notebook
Apr 2 2006 6:31PM (CT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Imagine Joakim Noah playing for Ben Howland and Jordan Farmar for Billy Donovan. Had it happened a couple of years ago, Monday night's national championship game would have had a drastically different look.

Apr 2 2006 6:22PM (CT)

Apr 2 2006 6:18PM (CT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Glen Davis doesn't want to go out like this. For LSU, that made the Final Four a little easier to take.

Gators swamp Mason with 3-point barrage
Apr 2 2006 10:47AM (CT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Lee Humphrey lingered outside the arc, determined to keep on shooting. Swish. Swish. And make it three. Appropriately enough, the Final Four longshot was doomed by the long shot. Bruins shut down LSU 59-45, reach final
Apr 2 2006 10:03AM (CT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The UCLA defense had blocked his final shot and he had committed his final foul. Wearily, Glen Davis plopped down on the bench and shook his head. Oh, Baby, can the Bruins play defense. Throw some offense in there on the same night and not even LSU and its 6-foot-9, 310-pound star, the guy known as "Big Baby," had a chance. The Bruins shut Davis down Saturday en route to a 59-45 victory over the Tigers that put them one win away from their 12th national title.

Apr 2 2006 12:54AM (CT)

Bruins find some offense in rout of LSU
Apr 2 2006 12:30AM (CT)
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Here's a news flash: UCLA has an offense. The defensive-minded Bruins, the team that couldn't shoot straight during much of the NCAA tournament, hit jumpers and layups. Apr 2 2006 12:23AM (CT)
