Michigan advances in NCAA gymnastics

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Big Blue is back in men's gymnastics. After losing the No. 1 ranking following a couple of late-season stumbles, Michigan rebounded with a third-place finish Thursday in the NCAA championship qualifying round to join Stanford and Illinois in the finals.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Rutgers. Not long ago, in much of the country, that word would have gotten you little more than a raised eyebrow. It's somewhere in the Northeast _ Maine, maybe? Delaware? Must be some little private school.

NCAA approves changes for football games

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Last season, the NCAA wanted to speed up football games. Next season, it wants more plays. On Thursday, the rules oversight panel approved two major timing changes that would revert the rules to what they were in 2005 _ stopping the clock on possession changes and not starting it on kickoffs until the receiving team touches the ball.
