WVU, Beilein agree on contract buyout

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Former West Virginia basketball coach John Beilein will pay the university $1.5 million _ $1 million less than called for in his contract _ for taking the job at Michigan with five years remaining on his deal.
 
NCAA passes text messaging ban

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - College coaches will have to recruit the old-fashioned way next year. The NCAA's board of directors approved a ban Thursday to eliminate all text messages from coaches to recruits beginning in August, then left open the possibility of revisiting that legislation as early as 2008.
 
Ole Miss women's coach steps down

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Carol Ross was hired to restore the Mississippi women's basketball team to national prominence. Now that she has, she's ready to do something else. Ole Miss announced Thursday that assistant coach Renee Ladner will replace Ross, who led the Rebels to postseason appearances in each of her four seasons and this year's NCAA national quarterfinals.
 
Marquette's James declares for NBA draft
