2 UCLA football players face charges

LOS ANGELES (AP) - UCLA linebacker John Hale and defensive tackle Jess Ward pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony assault charges, stemming from a February altercation at Ward's parents' home, a school spokesman said.
 
Contract keeps Texas-OU rivalry in Dallas

AUSTIN (AP) - The Red River Rivalry is staying in Dallas until 2010. Texas and Oklahoma officials announced Thursday they have agreed to keep their annual football game at the Cotton Bowl for another five years, replacing the current contract that expires in 2008.

Chowan drops Braves mascot to comply

MURFREESBORO, N.C. (AP) - Braves are out, Hawks are in at Chowan College. The school announced the change Thursday in response to an NCAA ruling that bans Indian mascots that are deemed "hostile or abusive" imagery. The NCAA decreed in August that member colleges would not be allowed to use Indian nicknames or mascots in NCAA tournaments.
