Dix bolts to 2nd-fastest NCAA 100 ever

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Walter Dix may be a slow starter. But, man, can he finish. The Florida State junior was late out of the blocks, then rapidly caught the competition and broke away over the final 50 meters to win the 100 on Friday at the NCAA track and field championships in 9.93 seconds, the fastest ever by a U.S.-born collegian.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mitch Moreland hit a two-run home run within minutes of being taken in the Major League Baseball draft Friday, leading Mississippi State to an 8-6 victory over Clemson in their super regional opener.

He apologized Thursday to the Orlando Magic, his family and the Florida Gators for changing his mind about joining the NBA coaching ranks. Instead, he'll rejoin Florida with a new six-year contract worth $3.5 million per year.
