MIAMI (AP) - A year has passed, and last season's loss to Florida State still troubles Miami linebacker Jon Beason. He insists the Hurricanes controlled the 2005 season-opener between the powerhouse programs, with stats supporting his claim. Miami outgained Florida State 313-170 that night, had 21 first downs to the Seminoles' nine and held a 12 1/2-minute edge in time of possession.

Nine months ago, Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer was grim as he answered questions about a 5-6 finish, his first losing season and a bowl-less holiday for his Volunteers. He may have been one of the most relieved _ but least surprised _ among the 106,009 people in Neyland Stadium who watched the 23rd-ranked Vols' 35-18 win over No. 9 California on Saturday.

New players, same result: USC wins rout

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - If this is what a rebuilding year looks like at Southern California, the rest of the country could be in big trouble. John David Booty threw three touchdown passes in the second half, and the sixth-ranked Trojans rolled to a 50-14 win over Arkansas on Saturday night in their first game since Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart moved on to the NFL.
