Cops seek 2nd suspect in punter stabbing

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - The irony that Northern Colorado, down three punters after a week of controversy, won with a blocked punt was not lost on coach Scott Downing. "I don't even know what to say about that," said Downing, who lost two punters this week in a bizarre stabbing scandal that brought national attention to the small university about 60 miles north of Denver.

If there was any doubt, No. 4 USC declared itself a national title contender for a fourth straight season with a 28-10 victory over 19th-ranked Nebraska on Saturday night.

Dixon's 16-yard keeper with 1:12 left brought the 18th-ranked Ducks within 33-27 and set up the onside kick attempt.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Sean Glennon and Virginia Tech's offense started slow again, but the No. 14 Hokies' fly-to-the-ball defense was again more than capable of shouldering the load Saturday, holding Duke to 149 total yards in a 36-0 victory. The Hokies (3-0) even had more points than Duke had total yards after Glennon's second touchdown pass, a 25-yarder to Josh Morgan midway through the third quarter.

Accused punter struggled to find success

WHEATLAND, Wyo. (AP) - The stands were always full on Friday nights at the Wheatland High School football stadium, one of the main gathering places in a small town where everybody knows everybody and prep sports still bring people together. On most other days, the stands were pretty much empty _ except for the presence of Suzanne Cozad and her video camera. "She filmed pretty much everything Mitch did," said Wheatland football player Taylor Derra. "It seemed like she was there a lot."
