Hackett struggles into 400 free final

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Australia's Grant Hackett barely made the 400-meter freestyle final in the world swimming championships Sunday, struggling home in the eighth and final qualifying spot. American Klete Keller fared even worse. He finished 10th, missing out by 0.31 seconds in a performance that was about 5 seconds off his best time.

Hard Spun back on Derby route with win

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) - Hard Spun won the $500,000 Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park by 3 1/4 lengths over long shot Sedgefield on Saturday to make amends for his only loss and get back on track for the Kentucky Derby.

Miki Ando's golden at skating worlds

TOKYO (AP) - Miki Ando won gold, and didn't even need her much-anticipated quad. Japan swept the top two women's places Saturday at the World Figure Skating Championships, with Ando taking the title and Mao Asada the silver, after South Korea's Kim Yu-na fell twice in her final skate and had to settle for bronze.
