Column: 1 eye enough for a brave horse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Cover your right eye. Now imagine being loaded into a starting gate alongside the best thoroughbreds in the land. The gate flings open and just ahead and to either side, 19 other horses are jostling for position as the first turn draws near. Then add 100,000 or so railbirds in full roar, throwing off as many decibels as a jet engine on takeoff.
 
Rags to Riches wins Kentucky Oaks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - One down, one very big one to go for Todd Pletcher. Horse racing's leading trainer won Friday when 3-year-old filly Rags to Riches rolled to victory in the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, the first step in what Pletcher hopes is a historic weekend at the track.
 
Wide-open Derby bucking traditions

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - It's anybody's Kentucky Derby, where there's no super horse, and superstar trainers Bob Baffert, D. Wayne Lukas and Nick Zito are all absent for the first time since 1980.
