Disease alert hovers over Belmont Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) - Horses being shipped in for the Belmont Stakes are at "low risk" of catching any equine disease, even after one horse at Belmont Park displayed symptoms of strangles, a contagious respiratory illness, the chief examining veterinarian for the New York Racing Association said.

Marion Jones finishes behind Sturrup again

MILAN, Italy (AP) - Marion Jones' latest race was over just as soon as it began. The American sprinter was slow out of the blocks and finished second to Chandra Sturrup for the second time in four days Wednesday. Jones ran 11.67 seconds in the 100 meters to finish a quarter-second behind the Bahamian at the Grand Prix Regione Lombardia meeting.
