Spearmon sizzles in 200, plans to go pro

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Arkansas sophomore Wallace Spearmon sprinted away from an outstanding field to defend his 200-meter title in a world-leading 19.91 seconds Saturday night at the NCAA track and field championships, then announced he was turning pro.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Michael Phelps and his Club Wolverine teammates put up another 1-2-3 finish Saturday in the Counsilman Classic. Phelps, the world record-holder in the 200-meter butterfly, won the event in 1 minute, 56.28 seconds. Teammate Davis Tarwater finished second and Alex Vanderkaay was third in the second day of action at the IUPUI Natatorium.

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - Shelly Daniels remembers the attack that sent her home from Iraq. It's the next 3 1/2 weeks she doesn't recall. Daniels, an Army specialist from Blackwell, suffered nerve damage, a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a broken shoulder blade when the vehicle she was riding in near Abu Ghraib was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in October 2003.
